It seems that among members of the United States Congress partisan loyalty has largely replaced personal integrity, the partisan platform has largely replaced personal conclusions, public polls have largely replaced personal deliberation, and the honor and prestige of the office of Senator or Representative has largely been put up for sale to the highest bidder though within the constraints just listed.
I have to wonder if this is similar to the state of political affairs in Ancient Rome when the Julius declared himself Emperor. God, it has the all the feel of it.
